Meditation may influence positive changes in the brain
Research that was published in the American Psychological Association’s journal Emotion suggests that those who practice regular meditation have increased gray matter thickness in their brains, which implies a greater tolerance to pain and emotion.
A team of scientists examined the brains of 35 individuals, roughly half of whom were already into meditation and the other half of whom had never meditated or practiced yoga.
When the participants were given a pain test involving a heated plate placed on their calves, brain imaging technology showed that gray matter in the meditators was significantly thicker than it was in those who had never used the practice.
Author and philosopher Ilchi Lee has written many books on the subject of meditation and how it can affect the brain. In Principles of Brain Management, he describes his techniques for tapping into the brain and gaining control over the organ through concentration. Ilchi Lee outlines in his book his meditative practices that may lead to mastering of the brain.
Other Ilchi Lee books on meditation include Brain Wave Vibration, Healing Chakras and In Full Bloom, a Brain Education Guide for Successful Aging, which he co-authored with Jessie Jones.
