In today's society, people tend to look to doctors for solutions to every one of their health problems. While there are certainly a number of conditions for which individuals should seek expert medical advice, there are still many other areas of health that can be influenced by alternative healing methods, potentially saving people from expensive and invasive medical procedures.

For example, a team of researchers recently reported in the Journal of Clinical Hypertension that many alternative methods commonly used by individuals to boost their heart health are extremely effective and are often as beneficial as more mainstream therapies.

The team found that coenzyme Q10, potassium, acupuncture and meditation all may help individuals reduce their blood pressure to a significant degree. In many cases, these therapies were as effective as prescription medications.

"Right now we're seeing a cultural shift where an increasing number of people want to avoid standard pharmaceuticals," said John Bisognano, who led the study. "We're also seeing a growing number of patients who require a large number of drugs to control their blood pressure and are looking for something else to help manage it."

The findings suggest that it may be possible to find good health through peace and serenity meditation, as well as with other natural methods. While statin medications and other pharmaceuticals that support heart health are generally well tolerated and have a proven track record of success in many patients, some people still experience powerful side effects.

By utilizing alternative healing methods, individuals may be able to minimize their risk of developing treatment-related health problems that can in many cases be just as bad as the medical condition itself.
