| From
March through August 2001 in Chicago, HSIA taught Dahnhak and Brain Respiration
to the public school system for the first time. The program was conducted at the
Cabrini Green magnet cluster of Jenner, Byrd, and Schiller elementary schools,
which are located in a transitional low income area. |
| During this six month time period, over 400
students participated in Dahnhak classes. Diana Anton who was the principle catalyst
in bringing Dahnhak to the public schools shares: "Students are the children
who easily got distracted, caught fighting, that teachers had to guard. After
the first six weeks of classes the children began to change. The classes became
stable, children cleaned the training area without being told to, and the number
of fights lessened. The most important change was that children, who seemed to
give up hope in everything got energy in their eyes and their self confidence
was restored." Carolyn L. Smith, Chief of volunteers, as Dahn Instructors
in Cabrini Green shared " Since we started teaching some of these programs
to children, we have observed what could be called the transference of a miracle."
This was a major milestone, which we hoped would lead to Dahnhak becoming a part
of the regular school curriculum. Challenges did arise as the public school administration
changed policies, which virtually eliminated "free periods" of physical
education and exercise for the children.
| Undaunted a new approach was begun in October 2001. At Manierre
elementary school, teachers began taking Dahnhak classes. For the first two months,
the teachers were students who were learning Dahn practice. In December they began
sharing Dahnhak with their students for 10-15 minutes per day. In the beginning
there were three teachers and now in February there are twelve. From their hearts,
they decided that they wanted to not only share with their students but also with
other teachers who could not take Dahn classes. So they asked that we make a video
presentation that the teachers can
buy and participate with their students. While this proposed project is
beginning to be discussed it may become a very effective way to share Dahn practice
with many teachers and children. Also, the movement began in Maryville City
of Youth, a home for displaced children who have been neglected and abused. Maryville
is the largest residential child-care facility in the state of Illinois. Here
is a sharing of Kim McDermott, a Dahn instructor, who has volunteered with Maryville
for several years and recently began Dahn Classes in Maryville and has been doing
2 classes a night for 2 groups of children twice a week since October of 2001;
"I love to see their smiling faces during the classes and I can feel the acceptance
from them, and the wanting to re-learn the love that is within them that has been
buried by the harsh environments their short lives have encountered thus far.
The children attend the classes by their own choice. They do not have to attend,
if they do not want. It feels good to see them all return to the classes. The
children are very receptive to the energy and are having fun doing the Dahnhak
exercises and energy work. Their favorite part of the class is the relaxation."
Kim's vision for Maryville is to bring it in on a permanent basis to incorporate
into the children's daily lives, to help them heal themselves and their hearts.
Kim teaches these classes with the help of Julie Dwyer a Dahn Instructor and Beverly
Williams a member who are all from the Schaumburg Dahn Center. |

| Every
Saturday. Tia Robinson, an English teacher at Helix Charter High School, teaches
her "Mind/Body Connection" class to two different groups of students.
One group is the students who have been sent to Saturday School for discipline.
This group has anywhere from 25 to 80 students in it on different weekends. The
other group is composed of about 16 students who want to practice Dahnhak seriously,
and who attend every week for two
hours. This second group is currently being studied by her school's science
department and others to develop preliminary evidence of the effects of the practice.
Scientists hope to begin investigating these effects more seriously next
school year to create a body of evidence others can use to start similar programs
in schools. About her vision and love for teenagers she says, "
For the complete healing of the earth and of society, we need to raise one clean,
clear generation of young people. Every day we see examples on TV of students
and young people engaging in violence, drugs, alcohol abuse, thoughtless sex,
and all these are a bell ringing a warning that it is time to do something for
our teenagers and young adults. These teens are like dolphins and whales who beach
themselves because they are sick or because there is something wrong with their
environment. Like them, our teens are killing themselves and each other and we
have not been able to understand the ringing of that bell, to interpret this as
a sign that action must be taken soon. This is true because the incidents of violent
acts are increasing and accelerating. Their cry is getting louder. Young
people are thirsty for someone to hear and understand; they are thirsty for a
guide and a way. Many people are afraid of teens because of what they see and
hear about them. And many teens have become tough and mean looking on the outside,
but they are eagerly waiting to embrace something to help them find their path.
Their parents are also thirsty for help, but they are lost. Parents try to make
up for their lack of time to love their children by giving them things instead
of affection and thoughtful attention. Like everyone, teens who have lost themselves
and who are searching will create their own associations, their own "tribes"
in which to find comfort and acceptance. But too often without good leadership,
these "tribes" turn to drugs, gangs, violence and lead teens only down
a dark path. That is why we must offer them a new "tribe" to belong
to. Deep inside, they do not want to go on the dark path, but it is the only one
they see. And those who appear to be the toughest on the outside want help and
guidance even more. Right now, it does not even really matter where
we start, we just must start. Look at the ants who carry burdens bigger than themselves
and who keep on working and working to feed themselves and make their homes; even
though the task seems too big, they just continue. In the same way, if we begin,
focus on one piece at a time, and work together, we will make a better way for
our youth." |

| All
the students in K.R. Booker Elementary School are enjoying the benefit of Brain
Respiration at school. The program includes "Wake-up Gym" in the morning,
to get students ready before learning Brain Respiration program. Second program
is "Brain Focusing" after lunch, to help students focus on the brain
and the self. In the afternoon, there will be "Brain Respiration" Class
to refresh the | | brain
and to tap into the cooperative and creative right brain. These are programmed
by 3 leaders of HSIA in Las Vegas, who are all educators: Sarah Hayes, Marianne
Lampi, Geoffrey Leigh (Ph. D.).
| Sarah shares that the idea for Brain Respiration in the schools
began the day she started Dahnhak practice. "When I first started to the
Dahnhak program, the Dahn teacher asked me during the energy check, 'What is your
job?' and I replied, 'I'm a teacher.' and added I've been teaching for 30 years,
but I'm so tired, I just don't think I can do it anymore. She just smiled and
said, 'Practice Dahnhak every day. Don't worry about teaching---take
care of your body first.' So I did. As I practice Dahnhak, I learned that
'my body is not me, but mine.' Soon I did feel better and I had more energy. I
knew then that any goal I set for myself, if I tried to do it sincerely with all
my heart, I could do it. I was also encouraged to read the book Healing Society
over and over again. Each time I read a different chapter it seemed that flames
were added to my desire to make a difference on earth." The expected educational
value and effect of Brain Respiration is comprehensive. It includes better health,
lower absenteeism to increased creativity and concentration. Better grades, a
more caring mind for others and developing the child's brain potential are also
benefits of the program. |

| Columbia
University Mercy D'Alessandri says, "My teaching at the Business
School, Columbia University started approximately a year ago. I talk so much about
Dahnhak and all that is has done for me, that a colleague, straight out asked:
Why don't you teach and share some of the goodness of Dahnhak with us? Jokingly,
I said to her "if you can find a room and people that are interested I will
do the teaching! | |
Well, She did find a room, and depending on the day I can have anywhere between
4-20 students! My students are composed of office workers and students. I hold
the classes twice a week, one hour each session. Everyone loves it and they all
claim to have benefited from the classes. What I find most rewarding is the part
of the class when we feel the energy ¡¦ to see them moving their hands and actually
'feeling' the push/pull... their comments are great, from 'felt a very warm energy
ball between my hands' to 'the pull was so strong that my hands were moving by
themselves'." The greatest thing here is not what I am able to
give them by teaching, I merely duplicate whatever class I take in my Center the
night before! ... the greatest reward is what they give me, the energy that I
feel and how well I feel when I walked out of the class and every day after that!
The irony of all of this is that everyone attending the class is so grateful.
...I am the one blessed by having this opportunity! I know the good it can do,
it saved my life and it keeps saving it on a daily basis." Bay Terrace Elementary School Starting
December 3rd, 2001 Bay Terrace School had their first Dahnhak training. As Teaching
Assistants in Great Neck Dahn Yoga Center, Evelyn and Meri will be teaching every
Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 8am for about 40 minutes before class hours. All
this was made possible by Sharon Friedlander and Meri who works as a teacher at
the school. With the active support of the parents and the consent of the
principal there was an open workshop for 6th graders on November 9 with 90 students
and 10 parents. Dahnhak demonstrations and experiencing Ki-energy to open the
meridian system, were a great success. The 6th graders are 11-12 years of age.
For 2 weeks the HSIA leaders went around getting signatures of consent making
it possible for 50 students to train every Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Due to the
positive response the classes were extended to 4th and 5th graders and then eventually
all the students at school. On April 24th next year, Sharon will
introduce Dahnhak and do demonstrations herself in front of 22 principal teachers
at the 25th school group of which Bay Terrace is a member. With a good reception
almost all the elementary schools at Queens will officially be able to do Dahnhak.
Currently Sharron's classes are free but we are pursuing the possibility of a
grant. By next year, we will, no doubt need many more leaders because to teach
at 22 schools will require at least 40 leaders. |

| HSIA
of Atlanta invited Dr. Ilchi Lee (original name is Seung Heun Lee) and held the
'Global Healing Forum: Healing the Earth and the People' on October 28th 2001,
which the office of the mayor of the city of Atlanta has proclaimed as 'Dr. Seung
Heun Lee Day'. It was in recognition for his precious contributions to the world
and the humanity through his never ending efforts to achieve a lasting and equitable
world peace through the elevation of the human consciousness. |
| This honor is not an individual honor. This
is an honor that speaks to the sweat and tears of the last twenty years when Healing
Society movement started with a lone semi-paralyzed student in a small local park
in Korea. Now, the movement has been held in more than 3,000 places and supported
by 1 million people. This is an honor that is shared with everyone who had ever
been or is now a participant in the HSIA movement. Just know that this is only
a beginning. Only the beginning of a process that will give birth, within 10 short
years, to over 100 million enlightened souls that will change the destiny of all
of humanity and the Earth.
HSIA in Atlanta has good relationship
with Unity Christ Center. Here is the sharing of Kim Cresse, 'Since the Global
Healing Forum in October, our relationship with the people of Unity Christ Center
in Suwanee, GA has continued to be strong. Actually, many of us have become members
of UCC ourselves. And since this experience, both UCC and the Dahn Centers here
have felt that our relationship is a special one. We are now teaching a lunchtime
class on Tuesdays at the church for Reverends Steve and Mary and their staff as
well as Dahn Yoga classes on Mondays and Fridays for the members." Kim Cresse
is seeking the way to unite with other organizations with the same vision for
healing society. She has organized several workshops to introduce this movement;
Churches of Religious Science, Unity Churches, and AGNT (Association for Global
New Thought.) |

| On
September 22nd and 24th, there have been "Walks For Peace" held here
in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We are happy to report that Healing Society In Action
has been instrumental in the walks and that the Declaration Of Humanity was read
at the conclusion of each walk.
The first event took place on Saturday when over 400 people came together
to walk from the Capitol of New Mexico to the Plaza. We walked two miles handing
out copies of the Prayer for Peace and the Declaration of Humanity. There were
many children as well as "peaceful pets". Many commented afterwards on how beautiful and powerful this declaration
is. There were many members from the Dahn Center that walked and handed out the
copies for people to read. The Sunday Journal of Santa Fe covered this event
the next day, with the headline of 'Marchers Want Alternative to Violence'. The
Prayer of Peace by Ilchi Lee was recited on air by the 'Transition Radio station'
in Santa Fe as an opening of the program on Sunday as well. On Monday, another
walk was held. This time approximately 100 people walked from the Capitol to the
office of our State Senator, Jeff Bigamon. When we read the Declaration
of Humanity, everyone agreed that this was the essence of what we were wanting
our Senator to do--to stand up for the rights of all and as we protect each other
we will protect our earth. HSIA has been very active in distributing the message
of peace that Dr. Lee presented to the United Nations last year. We have joined
with the American Red Cross to offer free classes to people when they contribute
to this vital organization. Many businesses have allowed us to set up signs and
hand out copies for us. It is our vision that Santa Fe become a Dahn village and
we are using this time to let people know our philosophy and our methodology.
