These practices have been shown scientifically to calm the mind and alleviate stress, both of which are factors that can promote mental stability and healing.</p>

<p>The power of prayer is an oft touted way for people to achieve a better sense of connection with their spiritual self. However, peace and serenity prayers may do much good for the mind and body as well.</p>
<p>The mental, physical and spiritual aspects of one&#039;s self are inextricably linked. As such, wellness in one area may promote health in another.</p>
<p>For example, multiple studies have shown that anxiety &ndash; a condition that stems from the brain &ndash; can have severe detrimental effects on the heart, which may lead to a number of other physical problems. Conversely, diseases of the body are known to potentially lead to depression or other mental disorders.</p>
<p>The part of one&#039;s being that modern society sometimes neglects is the spiritual. If we can accept that healing methods for stress can benefit the body, and vice versa, then why is it not recognized that a person&#039;s spirit can also play a part in overall well-being? You don&#039;t need studies to feel the positive effects of prayer, all you need to do is give it a try and see how you feel.</p>

<p>A quick Google search can tell you much about a subject, and so can visiting your local library. Want to know more about the Ottoman Empire? Interested in how alternative medicine techniques work? Want to memorize the birthplaces of all the U.S. presidents? The answers are at your fingertips. All you need to do is make the effort.</p>
<p>Author and philosopher Ilchi Lee recommends that individuals engage in lifelong learning during their journey toward betterment.</p>
