Meditation has long been a trend in western countries. We probably have more than a thousand gurus or masters in the United States alone. One of the most popular themes they speak of is enlightenment. What is enlightenment?

In a seminar, someone asked me, "Are you really enlightened?" I asked him if he knew what enlightenment was and he said that he didn't.

"Unless you know what it is, how can you trust me if I say I am enlightened or I say I am not?" My answer seemed successful in that he was silently thoughtful for a while. After a while, he asked again as boldly as before, "What is your enlightenment? Or what did you

realize through your enlightenment?" With a smile, I replied, "What I realized is that there is nothing to be enlightened. There is nothing to be enlightened. That was and is my enlightenment." Though he didn't ask any more questions, I felt I had to say something more to make things clear, not only for the questioner himself, but also for the people there and other potential questioners who were carrying the same question though not asking it so directly.

Showing my index finger, I asked, "How many fingers do you see? I see just one. How many do you see? If you don't have any personal interest, what I see will not be different from what you see. This is what truth means. If you have any underlying personal agenda, or any problems with the function of your senses, then you may say you see two or three. However, since you are looking at the finger without any agenda, you see only one finger just the way it is."    Top

"Seeing does not require understanding the process of seeing. Not even the combined knowledge of top experts can fully explain the complicated physical, chemical, electrical, neurological, and psychological process of the optical perception. For the most part it is still controversial. But do we really have to know about the process of seeing in order to see? I am seeing my finger and I know I am seeing without having to understand the process of seeing. Do not imagine the world that the enlightened see is different from the world that you see. One finger is just one finger. Enlightenment is nothing more than what you see, hear, and feel.

Enlightenment is seeing, hearing, and feeling. This is why it doesn't need any effort. When somebody says he or she has become enlightened through effort, you can know that he or she is lying or mistaken. What you see, hear and feel naturally without any effort, that is enlightenment and truth. That is why my truth and your truth cannot be different. That is how we can share it and realize it. An enlightenment that cannot be transferred and a truth that cannot be shared is no more than personal imagination. Enlightenment is seeing, hearing and feeling without effort and tension. It is just a given and this is the way it has always been. This is why it can never be accomplished. It is not a place you arrive at, but where you depart from. What matters is not enlightenment or if you know that you are enlightened or not. What really matters is making the appropriate choice based on what you see, hear and feel and being ready to take responsibility for the consequences of your choice."  Top

"Life itself is a series of choices. Enlightenment is not a guarantee for making a better choice. Your own character determines your choice. The root of your character consists of your habits. The occasional isolated choice that you make, without knowing why, does not say much about your character. However, the innumerably repeated choices create habits, and habits grow into one's character. Good character is the flower and fruit of good habits. Enlightenment is not your responsibility. It is not what you were created to be striving for.

Enlightenment is already a given whether you are aware of it or not. You are already in God's garden. Your responsibility is to grow a good character, to bloom a beautiful flower in God's garden. This all starts from the soul. Your Soul is the seed of the flower. It is what is called divinity. It is a perfect seed. It is simply a matter of where to plant the seed and how to take care of it, which creates all the difference in colors, shapes, and sizes. The whole process of taking care of the flower, from the planting of the seed, is a sequence of choices. The sum of all the choices forms the root of habit and character stems from the root. Grow your own character. Bloom yourself beautifully. Of course, each flower is unique. Some may not be as beautiful, but they, in their contrast, may serve the whole garden by making the beauty of the other flowers more impressive. Grow lovely flowers if you can. It is always your choice."    Top

I
t may be good enough to bloom oneself into a beautiful flower. However, being a gardener of God's garden and helping others bloom is much more precious and adorable. This is what healing truly means. If the realization of one's inner divinity is enlightenment, practicing enlightenment is healing. Healing is acting one's enlightenment. So far we have been seeking enlightenment, but enlightenment doesn't mean very much while we are seeking it. It begins to be meaningful only when we start to act it. Basically, enlightenment is not something you can get by seeking it. There is no other way but to act it if you are to prove your enlightenment. If enlightenment cannot be verbally explained, or scientifically verified, how can you convince even yourself of your enlightenment if not by your acting it?

It is time for the current spiritual trend to change; from seeking enlightenment to acting it, from meditation to healing. Healing, not meditation, is the proof of spirituality we need today. When meditation is the trend, a fake can be successful, because they can talk about what they have not experienced, saying that what they are talking about is beyond scientific verification. We no longer have enough time for that. It is high time we end the fascination of playing verbal games about truth. What we see, hear, and feel naturally with our normal senses is truth and reality, just as one finger is only one finger. Does a finger need any complementary explanation to be seen the way it is, just as a single finger? To me, this is a finger. Is it to you? To me, we seem to have problems. How about to you? How do our society and the earth look to you? Are they OK? We have problems. Our society has problems. The earth on which we are allowed to live has really serious problems.    Top

hose who think themselves enlightened or want to look enlightened try to ward off this topic by saying that everything in existence is perfect. Everything is perfect. Yes, but it is a matter of different dimensions. For the perfection to be perfect, we have our responsibility as a part of that perfection. When a cell of our body is sick, the immune system may prove its functionality by the cell being terminated and erased. However, the same immune system can prove its perfection even more perfectly by healing the cell. The universe may prove itself to be fair through devastation of the Earth and the extermination of humankind as the main cause of the Earth's devastation.

On the other hand, the universe may prove its benevolence and fairness even more dramatically by humankind being awakened and healing themselves and the Earth. This is absolutely our choice. If both killing and healing are truth, which one will you choose? How would you like the truth to prove itself to you? No matter what your choice is, the truth will express itself perfectly the way it is, as truth; when there is surplus, by relieving the surplus, and when there is a lack, by filling the lack.    Top

W
hen there is surplus, its relief will be the truth. When there is lack, its filling will be the truth. When there are problems, the solution is the truth. This is the way truth works. If we have problems and our society and the Earth have problems, only truth can heal us, our society, and the Earth. Healing is the truth. When healing has become the trend for those who are awakened to truth, and when those who want to live by the truth join the trend, it will grow beyond a temporary trend to be a lasting movement: a mass cultural movement to heal society and the Earth.

There are many different ways and dimensions of healing. Like the sunlight, wind, rain and earth, working together to create a single flower, we may use light, sound and vibration along with messages, music and action for healing the Soul. We may heal an individual, or a society or the Earth itself. Healing society and the Earth is like creating an appropriate environment for all the flowers to bloom the way they choose. No matter how good the seed may be, if not planted in a fertile environment, it cannot root itself properly nor can it bloom into a beautiful flower. Only with the blessing of sunlight, good soil, moisture and the attentive care of the gardener can the seed sprout, grow, flower and bear fruit.Top

his is why we need people to work with and communities to share our vision with, because they are the environment that enables and empowers character and the divinity within to grow and blossom. Most fundamentally the environment means global human society and the Earth itself. How long can it be spring inside your house when it is winter outside, and how long can a rose, no matter how precious its beauty, keep its beauty if it is left out in a snow storm?

It is time that we create the optimum environment for divinity to flower all over the world, as quickly as we can, before devastation forces us to abandon the garden and the sprouts are uprooted, leaving divine perfection only as a frustrated possibility. Time is asking us to be quick. No matter how challenging it is, let's not be afraid or overwhelmed, because it is in God's garden that we are working and in it we find everything we need. Do you trust in the your own divinity? Do you really want assurance of it? Then take it as a witness to that divinity, healing society and healing the Earth.
