What
is Dahnhak ?
"Dahn" means energy, vitality, and origin of life,
and "hak" means study, philosophy, and theory. Dahnhak is the study
of energy (Ki) and how to use it to achieve mastery of mind and body and
illumination of the spirit. The Dahnhak method is a mind/body training program
designed to promote the harmonious growth of individuals. It had long been a successful
method of education in ancient Asia and was recently rediscovered, modernized,
and incorporated into the methodology for healing society by Dr. Ilchi Lee. Dahnhak
teaches how to awaken the senses to Ki-energy and how to use it to improve body/mind
health, and eventually help people realize their true identity through their
multi-sensory experience. All of its theory and practice is founded on the belief
in the original perfection of humanity. The ultimate purpose is, first, to recover
one's original perfection as a holistic being of body/mind/spirit, and next, to
benefit all human kind and the world by helping others re-discover their
own perfect nature. | |

Dahnhak starts out as physical exercise, with its truer purpose in aiding the
individual | |
to recover his/her physical health and ethical foundation on the way to becoming
a | |
" spiritual " person who is nonetheless successful in the everyday world.
At the same time, | |
Dahnhak aims at the spiritual enlightenment not only of the individual, but the
whole of | |
and of humanity. For individual and group enlightenment are but different sides
of the | |
same coin. They cannot be separated. " | |

"Ki"
is the Key ! "Ki" is the Korean word for cosmic
vitality that is the true essence of every creation in the cosmos. Most people
begin their understanding of Ki-energy by experiencing it as bio-energy or the
vital life force in the body. Ki-energy is the connection between the physical
body and conscious mind. When practitioners learn to control the Ki-energy in
their bodies, they begin to understand that they have control over their bodies.
In the Orient, people have understood this energy and have used it in
various fields such as oriental medicine, the arts, politics and culture for thousands
of years. Recently, much scientific research has been conducted on studying the
sources and power of life force energies. The most well known research on this
subject is the study known as Kirlian Photography*. Dahnhak systematically teaches
awareness of Ki-energy and how to integrate its' use into daily life. With
an increasing awareness of Ki-energy and connection to it, we can easily travel
into our inner world. It assists us to recognize this energy as the ultimate source
of all life and thus realize our true nature, that is, our true selves. Kirlian

In 1939, a Russian electrician named Semyon Davidovitch Kirlian
succeeded in taking pictures of bio-energy. His pictures clearly
showed that sick leaves of plants showed a feeble aura of bio-energy,
while healthy leaves showed a bright and strong aura. Also his pictures
showed human beings and animals radiating various different auras
depending on the condition of their physical and energy bodies.

around its tail, mouth and toes. Photograph by Chan Soo Jung, a
