Meridian
Gym :
Do-In Exercise 'Do' means
to lead or pull the Ki-energy into the body. 'In' means stretching. Do-In exercise
is effective Ki-exercise that consists of simple but highly effective movements
that can be easily practiced by everyone, irrespective of physical strength. It
is the most basic step of Dahnhak practice.
| Technique:
| Meridian Gym
consists of precise coordination of correct postures, breathing, and consciousness.
Some movements are done while holding the breath and some are done with natural
breathing. The most important thing is to adjust the movement and the breathing
according to the needs of the practitioner. | | Benefits:
| A
feeling of positive energy and the release of tension in the body are first results
of Meridian Gym. Muscles, nerves and circulatory system are strengthened and the
natural healing power of the body is maximized. Also the internal organs are stimulated.
Finally, Meridian Gym helps the mind and body relax before beginning Dahn-Jon
Breathing (refer
to Energizing Breathwork) and meditation. |
| Basic
forms of Meridian Gym |
Shaking | | Benefits:
Gentle shaking exercises improve blood circulation by activating
the blood vessels. This relieves over-load on the heart and helps to lower high
blood pressure. It also improves energy circulation to each cell of the body.
It is effective in alleviating anxiety and improving concentration. |
| Application:
Hand shaking, feet Shaking, whole body shaking
Let's try it ! Hand shaking.
Relax your whole body. Shake both arms and hands over
your head. Slowly bring your hands down with gentle vibration. This exercise releases
the stagnant energy in your shoulders and arms. It also stimulates the meridian
points in yours hands and increases the blood circulation throughout your whole
body, because your hands are connected to all of the meridian channels in your
body. |
Patting | | Benefits:
Patting exercise improves blood circulation. It is especially
effective for strengthening the nervous system. Health is generally improved,
regardless of age or symptoms, by stimulating and activating the meridian points.
| | Application:
Arm patting, head tapping, chest patting, whole body
patting, Dahnjon clapping. Let's try it !
Whole body patting Gently pat arms, chest, abdomen,
legs and the whole body all around. If there are some points unusually painful
in the body, focus on patting or tapping those areas and the meridian points will
be reactivated. |
Twisting |
| Benefits:
Twisting exercise releases stiffness
in the muscles and stimulates cellular metabolism. It
also helps to restore balance to the body's shape. |
| Application:
Neck, shoulders, arms, legs, trunk. Let's try
it ! Arm twisting With arms stretched out to your sides at shoulder
height, begin twisting your arms forward, then backward, coordinating with your
breathing. Then, twist your left hand forward, turning your entire arm, while
at the same time, twisting your right hand and arm backward. Repeat this movement,
with your right hand forward and the left hand backward. This movement eliminates
tension in the neck and shoulders as well as numbness in the arms.
|
Stretching |
| Benefits:
Stretching facilitates blood circulation
and flow of Ki-energy. This increases the supply of oxygen,
blood and energy to the muscles and joints. It also corrects
spinal structure, helps to improve flexibility and relieves
stress. |
| Application:
legs, thighs, back, spine, arms. Let's
try it ! Leg and Upper Body Stretch With feet together, bend over
at the waist and touch your hands to the floor. Repeat this motion, with your
hands crossed and touch the floor with a gentle bouncing motion. Next, clasp your
hands behind your knees, bend forward and gently bounce. This exercise also improves
the function of your kidneys and bladder and has an "age-reversing"
effect. |
Rotating | | Benefits:
Rotating exercise releases the stagnant energy in the spine,
neck, shoulders, and joints (elbows, wrists, hip-joints, knees, ankles) |
| Application:
waist , neck , hip-joints, knees, ankles, wrists.
Let's
try it ! Waist rotation Gently rotate your waist with hands loosely
at your sides. Keep your arms and shoulders relaxed and let your arms naturally
follow the rotation of your waist in a swinging motion. Next raise arms to chest
level and repeat the rotation. |
Rubbing and Sweeping | | Benefits:
Hands are the location in the body where Ki-energy are most
active. Just rubbing the hands creates heat on the palms and activates Ki-energy
throughout body. With this activated energy, you can send energy to heal yourself
and others. | | Application:
Sweeping whole the body, rubbing hands, rubbing feet. Let's
try it ! Rubbing intestine exercise Rub your hands together quickly
to make your hands warm. Slowly rub your abdomen clockwise with circling motions.
This movement facilitates warmth in the abdomen and activates the intestines to
improve digestive function. This is helpful in eliminating constipation. |
